April 3, 2007 at 12:22 am (Assignments)

My team consists of Jasmine, Yingzhao n myself. We’ve gotta come up with a storybook for kids 6-9yrs of age. The storyline has been confirmed, the interactivity of the book has been thought up…….and right now we’re working on the sketches n the colouring.

For those of you who wish to read the story, click here: The story

Here’s a look at the pages that will go into the book. Psst.. this book has interactivity involved, kids. Read it today! haha.

Assignment 6–design analysis (pairwork)

March 25, 2007 at 2:11 am (Assignments)

click here————> powerpoint slides <————–click here

Click on the above link to view Jasmine’s and my powerpoint slides. Task was to analyze 2 poster designs and build a case to support whether each was a good or bad poster. Analysis was based on visual principles (visual form, visual harmony, colour and gestalt principles).

Lessons learnt: Do not assume that a piece of digital art is a poster. It may be considered a poster if for example, it is being used to represent an entire website as a whole and is therefore meant as a form of advertisement.

Assignment 5– Love Greeting card

March 5, 2007 at 2:59 pm (Assignments)

a4-greeting-cardminimized.jpg

In my opinion, this is the most kiddish design I have ever come up with in my entire ‘art life’. Quite disappointing really. But since my classmates seemed to have given it the green light, a little touch up here and there should do the trick. Hmm.. should i change the pink colours to something else? Somehow pink is so unlike me. Blue perhaps? Anyway, the image above is the outside front and back of the greeting card. The image below is naturally the interior of the card.

Classmates’ comments: Put the “Cupid Pte Ltd” logo at the back of card. Cut out the heart to reveal the word “Love”(meaning to say that the word “Love” is on the inside of the card). Place words on inside of card.

Assignment 4–Poster design (Theme: Save/Prevent/Kill)

February 27, 2007 at 2:04 am (Assignments)

Drink-driving kills!

Theme: Drink-driving kills!

For starters, THE SPLASH IS REAL. took many many shots with a fast-shutter camera before getting the ‘perfect splash’. Therefore, must ‘hao-lian’ a bit. haha. Anyway, the poster shows a car diving into a wine-filled glass. Basically, the idea is that drinking and driving don’t mix well together. Instead of having the usual “Don’t drink and Drive” as the main slogan, I decided to go against the norm by making “Not the best mix” the main caption of the poster. Oh, and that’s my mum’s car.  I used the lasso tool in Adobe to copy and paste the car into the wine glass image, then used the opacity tool to blend it to make it look like it’s drowning in the wine. Enjoy.

Assignment 3– Using pictures to tell a story

February 12, 2007 at 12:19 am (Assignments)

U C what I C

Spot the twist!

1) Sad guy.

2) Sad guy begins penning a note.

3) Suicidal note part 1.

4) Suicidal note part 2.

5) Revelation  of the twist… Not a suicide note after all.

6)  The prank: Stick note onto drunk friend.

7) Time to take a photo of the fool and send it to others.

Classmates’ comments: The prank should be emphasized, thus more pictures should be added after image 7. Question is….. How and what….

Assignment 2– Representational Techniques.

February 4, 2007 at 2:59 pm (Assignments)

bowling

View the images from the top left to right, then bottom left to right. My attempt to distill the images through the process of abstraction.

1) A person bowling.

2) Take away the person to reveal the bowling lane, gutters, bowling ball and the pins.

3)Focus on the ball nearing the pins

4)Ball smashes pins and leaves 3 pins standing.

5)Simplify the 3 remaining pins….symbol of bowling.

Classmates’ comments: Final symbol not representative of an activity but instead looks simply like an object. Image 4 shows too much emotion, unlike the rest of the pictures, thus making it look out of place.

An iconic symbol of bowling

Finally, an enlarged version of the iconic symbol I designed. Just one look at it and hopefully you understand it represents “bowling”.

helicopter symbol

I’ve also decided to make a symbol out of an object.

The helicopter model in the picture is the “Bell Cobra AH-1″. It’s a military aircraft. By the 2nd symbol, it starts to lose its generic meaning. Finally, the last symbol could mean any other helicopter other than a military helicopter.

Assignment 1.

graffiti-sketches.jpg

graffiti-rough1.jpg   graffiti-rough2.jpg

Above are my sketches and roughs for my graffiti designs. My name is Cel and I love graffiti!

My name is Cel….. I love graffiti…

Classmates have commented that the red portion of “CEL” could be replaced with another colour in order to make the name stand out a little bit more.

After the crit session, I changed the colour from Red to Purple.

Moving on, here’s a look at my sketches and roughs for the HATE design:

I hate fire. Mainly just the thought of being burnt to death scares me. During the critique session, someone said my letter C looked like a magnet. haha. Someone in class did a really good flame design. Perhaps I should go learn how to do that too.

The 2nd image below is that of the flame without outlines, done after the critique session.
